Katana Boy is the sword wielding avatar through whom I explore the fantastical soundscapes of the sonic plane. Join our hero in his most daring exploration yet as he navigates the caverns, fields, oceans, and forests of the Realm of Resilience!

These songs were all composed and recorded in October and November of 2019. Following my previous release I had a much more intentional idea for where I wanted my music to go and the sorts of moods and settings that I wanted to create with it. Also during this time I had the pleasure of being able to see both Maribou State and Four Tet in concert who are two of my greatest music influences. Seeing these performances helped me visualize how my music may fit into the greater cultural scheme of things as well as helped me feel more confident and validated in some of my stylistic tendencies!

This collection features rhythms programmed on a Korg Volca Sample, a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator 32, and the Samplr app for iPad. Synth lines were crafted using the Arturia Microbrute, the Korg Volca FM, and the Meeblip Triode. Lastly, this project features a decent amount of electric guitar samples created by myself and ran through a Boss DD-5 pedal. All produced in Logic 9 using mostly native plug-ins.

My hope is that these tunes take you to a place of self reflection and create an environment for your mind to retreat to which inspires self-confidence and resilience! The cover is a photograph taken by me and edited by Josh Taira. The EP was mastered by the wizard Drew Jackson.
